Get Yer Game On!
CNW's January meeting will be all about games -- not playing them, but making them!
Our guest speaker will be Laura Schumacher (AKA: "Nintendo Queen"), strange visitor from another planet, who took up the video game controller even before she could walk, and who has been working as a professional in the gaming industry for more than seven years. While the economy has been sluggish for some time, the gaming industry has expanded and is continuing to grow.
Laura, whose work has appeared in many projects ("ILoveBees" -- the viral ad campaign for "Halo 2," "Jakks TV Dora the Explorer," and "Facebook UNO"), will present "Casual and Independent Games 101." Topics she'll cover will include "the game creation process," "how to get a job as a game artist for a company," and "how to create games on your own (if you're willing to learn programming)." She'll also focus on browser-based games created with Adobe Flash, since creating these is one of the easier routes for an artist wishing to enter the industry. After her talk, Laura and a fellow gaming pro will answer questions. Please come and welcome Laura and thank her for sharing her knowledge and experience!
The other big news for January is that we'll be meeting in a new space! CNW meetings will now take place at Daniel Smith Artist Supplies in South Seattle (see attached map). Spiffy features of our new location include free parking and a "mystery discount" for CNW members on art supplies! Come check out our new "Hot Spot," and thank the folks at the store for hosting our Funny Business! IMPORTANT: Meetings will now run from 4pm to 6pm! Efforts are being made to find a new favorite place to get food 'n' drink after meetings.
As usual, there will be an agenda to discuss and a "Best of the Northwest" cartoon contest, and anything else you want to run by the august assemblage. Start the new year (and, um, possibly new decade?) off right with CNW's January gathering!
